We’ve reached a point in human existence where we can’t keep taking and depleting the earth’s resources and we must stop doing damage! We have options now to shop more consciously in an ethical and sustainable manner. This can cost more and is not always as accessible as the alternatives but with a little extra effort we can make it more cost effective by reducing what we buy and buying only what we ‘really' need and where possible refill, reuse and repair what we can. We also have a thriving charity shop community here in the UK and many preloved sites where we can pretty much buy anything.

I believe we can all make a difference through the power of our spending. Firstly by asking ourselves the question whether we need it?
I mean really need it? If the answer is "Yes", the next question is "Can I buy it without negatively impacting other people or the planet and can my purchase make a positive difference?" If you’re shopping with Tropic the answer is "Yes"!
When making purchases the first thing most people think of is the cost and rightly so.
If a product seems expensive and there’s something similar for cheaper that’s often the option people go for without much thought.
In my experience there’s always a good reason why the product costs less. It will be made using cheaper less sustainable materials or ingredients which are unlikely to be ethical. It may not be cruelty free and won’t give back anything other than profit to shareholders!
As the product was cheaper and money was saved, that money is often used to buy something very similar. This can lead to having several of the same thing creating too much choice, more clutter and excess, often leading to feeling stressed and overwhelmed without realising this could be the cause of it!! I know because I’ve been guilty of that myself - a bathroom cupboard bursting with lots of similar products that I spend so much energy feeling guilty for wasting.
When I joined Tropic I decided it was time for a clear out. I gave away most of the products I had. Used up the products I liked and slowly replaced my entire skincare range with Tropic products. The first thing I noticed was that I had reduced what I had and now needed by more than half! It was quality over quantity. I have space in the cupboard and my make-up bag. It feels so good. I wish I had done it sooner.
I realise now that I don’t need much to look after my skin and I don't buy anything extra until something runs out.
What I think I’m trying to say is if your budget allows to make a more ethical purchase by spending that bit more you will save money in the long run and have a much smaller negative impact all round.
